As of Thursday November 5th 2020, the Sooke School Board 62 has declared that its 2 schools, elementary and middle schools, have been named, and are presently being built in the new subdivision area of Westhills, Langford. They are due to complete by September 2022.
The elementary school will be named Pexsisen, pronounced "pux-see-sing" a Lekwungen & Sencoten word that means "the opening of hands." This name was created by Butch Dick of the Songhees First Nation
The middle School will be named Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School and was created by Chief Russ Chipps from Beecher Bay Nation. This name stands for "house and the idea of community, where we raise our children."
6.5 acres has been allocated to these 2 schools and $88.6 Million was funded to start the project in 2019. Five school sites have been purchased in the district these past 3 years, in preparation for the fast growing community of Langford. There is presently about 11,300 students and with upon completion, it should accommodate about 1200 new students. With the expectant growth of the community, they expect 300 students a year over the next 15 years.
